Kaupae 1 (Stage 1) 

This resource is designed to provide scaffolding for accurate handwriting formation ensuring letters are formed proportionate to the line using sky, grass and dirt anology. All letters should be formed (in most cases) from the top to bottom. Letters with tall sticks (h, k, t) must begin in the sky (blue) and letters with 'tails' must hang under the line in the dirt (brown space). Tamaiti can begin by forming straight over the provided letters and then when accuracy is reached they can move to the blank coloured line below to form their own letters using the letters above as a guide. Evidence from neuro science proves that verbalising sounds as letters are formed creates brain pathways and stores information in the long term memory faster.
